A BRIEF HISTORY
Chamber of Geophysical Engineers of Turkey (CGET), the only geophysical association of the country established in 1986, is a member of the Union of Chambers of Turkish Engineers and Architects. It has inherited the technical and scientific background of the Geophysical Society of Turkey, which was founded in 1961.
Now having its headquarter in Ankara, CGET has 11 main branches in Adana, Antalya, Bursa, Denizli, Eskişehir, İstanbul, İzmir, Kocaeli, Samsun, Sakarya and Trabzon; 5 regional divisions (Diyarbakır, Elazığ, Erzurum, Gaziantep and Nevşehir), 57 branch offices in different cities, 7 branch offices in different boroughs of Turkey, 30 company representatives, 11 University representatives and 6 foreign representatives ( 3 in USA, UK, Canada and Germany ) which serve for a total of 5426 active members from now on, 485 members in private sector for geophysical engineering and 447 officially registered bureau.
CGET was the first Corporate Member of the EAEG and an Affiliate of the EAGE (European Association of Geoscientists and Engineers) having representatives in the councils of both associations before the merger of the two into EAGE. Recently our Chamber became a section of the SEG (Society of Exploration of Geophysicists). CGET has also established close relations with the geophysicists from many Balkan States, East European and CIS countries.
CGET represents the profession in governmental affairs and gives advice on legal matters concerning its members. It submits opinions and proposals to commissions established by the government through its representatives.
CGET has three periodical publications. "Jeofizik" is a semiannual scientific and technical bulletin published in Turkish and English with abstracts both in Turkish and English. "Jeofizik Bulteni" is an informative bulletin published three times a year in Turkish. "Journal of the Balkan Geophysical Society" is a scientific and technical bulletin which is published by Chamber of Geophysical Engineers.
Disaster and Earthquake and Geophysical Congresses and Panel Discussions Our Chamber (then, the Geophysical Association), also organized the 42nd EAGE Meeting and Exhibition in İstanbul in 1980. "The 1st International Geophysical Congress of Kazakhstan" held in Almaty between 15-19th May 1995. The Congress was co-organized with Geophysical Society of Kazakhstan.
CGET has organized ISTANBUL-97 "International Geophysical Conference and Exposition together awith SEG and EAGE. CGET played an important and leading role in the establishment of Balkan Geophysical Society (BGS) which came into life in 1993. CGET also organized second BGS Congress and Exhibition which held in Istanbul in 5 - 9 July 1999 during its Presidency period 1997 - 2000. BGS has already organized "Geophysical Congress and Exhibition" held in Athens 1996, Sofia 2002, Bucharest 2005, Budapest 2011 and Tirana 2013 together with SEG, EAGE, EGU (European Geosciences Union) and AGU (American Geophysical Union).
First step to engineering, application and reporting project, which was a camp and a work shop held in Çanakkale, was organized between 28th April-5th May 2007, with the support of Çanakkale 18 Mart University Geophysical Engineering Department. "IVth Geophysical Engineering Students Congress" held between 8-9th November 2007 in Trabzon.
Disaster and Earthquake and Geophysical Congresses and Panel Discussions were organized in several regions and cities of Turkey.
CGET has already organized the "19th International Geophysical Conventions and Exhibitions" in Ankara between 23-26 November 2010. The Turkish and foreign delegates had opportunity to observe the latest developments in the fields of geophysics in Turkey and the world at the technical sessions and exhibitions during the convention. 20th International Geophysical Congress and Exhibition of Turkey between 25-27 November 2013 in Antalya, Rixos Lares Hotel was held in.
International firms and oil and gas companies in our country were to come together, to provide information each other, to discuss problem, to probe political and economical influence of oil and gas sector and also in order to provide to discussion " 13thTurkish International Oil and Gas Showcase and Conference-TUROGE 2014", CGET and Turkish Association of Petroleum Geologists are organized in Ankara between 09-10 April 2014.
CGET has already organized the biannual "19th International Petroleum and Natural Gas Congress and Exhibition of Turkey-IPETGAS 2013" in Ankara between 15-17 May 2013, jointly with Chamber of Petroleum Engineers of Turkey and Turkish Association of Petroleum Geologists.
A Geothermal Energy Workshop is to be held by our Chamber under the "International Electricity Congress EIF 2011" with the support of the Turkish Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources at Ankara Sheraton Hotel & Convention Center between 14 and 16 September 2011.
Association of the Balkan Geophysical Congress and Exhibition, held in Turkey in 1999, was organised in Tirana, Albania, between 7-10 October 2013.
